Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children is seeking a Director for its
Movement Science Lab. The Lab is located in a modern, state of the art
facility, which is funded by an endowment. The current staff includes two
biomechanists, a biomedical engineer, a student, and secretary. A staff
pediatric orthopaedic surgeon serves part-time as Medical Director.
The Hospital, affiliated with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical
Center at Dallas, has been providing free care to patients with orthopaedic
and neurologic disabilities for 76 years. The lab focuses on clinical
applications of gait analysis in all aspects of pediatric orthopaedics.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Research Responsibilities: The Director will take a significant leadership
role in the research activities of the Lab. This will include formulating
hypotheses regarding significant questions in pediatric orthopaedics,
designing protocols needed to address those hypotheses, executing those
protocols, and providing guidance to Lab staff and visiting researchers.
The Director will provide scientific and technical support as part of a
multidisciplinary team in the Lab. The Director will develop short and
long-range plans for the lab and its resources.
Clinical Responsibilities: The Director will coordinate Lab staff in order
to provide medical staff with clinically meaningful analyses of human
movement and muscle strength in patients being treated at the Hospital.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D. required, in bioengineering or comparable field. Record of published
research in biomechanics of movement science required. Supervisory
experience required.
