Post 1
Experimental Officer: Science/ Physical Education & Sport Sciences
The Department of Physical Education and Sport Sciences has a vacancy for an
Experimental Officer. The department has 14 faculty staff, an administrative
secretary and two technicians. Research within the department is supported
by 1 post-doctoral fellow and 15 post-graduate students working on a variety
of grant funded projects.
Working with the academic supervisors, the experimental officer will
co-ordinate experimental project work on human subjects for undergraduate
and post-graduate research in physical education, sport and exercise
science. The department has well-equipped, dual purpose laboratories for
teaching and research that support approximately 30 undergraduate and 15
post-graduate experimental projects per annum.
The duties of the post will be:
* to work under the direction of the Head of the Department;
* to provide support to the experimental project work in physical
education and sport and exercise science;
* to audit and manage the purchase of consumable and equipment items;
* to further develop and implement the health and safety policy of the
University with respect to physical education and sport and exercise science
under the direction of the Head of Department and the Safety Officer.
The post would suit a biological sciences graduate who has supervisory
experience of physiological measurement, preferably within the human
sciences. An experience of working within university teaching/research
laboratory would be an advantage.
The minimum qualifications for this post is an NCEA Diploma or equivalent
and at least 5 years appropriate laboratory experience. Basic training in
First Aid and further training in Advanced Cardiac Life Support will be a
requirement and, where needed, will be provided for the holder of this post.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be in post for the
start of the new academic year in September 1999.
The salary range is 17,750 and 28,004 (Irish Pounds) according to
qualification, age and experience.
Post 2:
Physical Education & Sport Sciences: Technician
Applications are invited for the post of Technician in the Department of
Physical Education and Sport Sciences.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to day management
of the biomechanics, psychology and physiology teaching laboratories.
Current and future development of these teaching laboratories is makes
extensive use of information technology, computer data capture and equipment
control so previous experience in instrumentation and/or computer
programming would be an advantage.
The minimum qualifications for this post is an NCEA Diploma or equivalent.
It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be in post prior to the
start of the new academic year in September 1999.
The salary range is 17,750 to 28,004 Irish Pounds according to
qualification, age and experience.
