The Orthopaedic Research Institute, Inc. (ORI) of Wichita is
seeking a Research Engineer to conduct innovative studies aimed
at translating clinical/surgical needs of orthopaedics and other
healthcare specialties into marketable devices, projects,
implants, and related instrumentation. ORI is a not-for-profit
component of Via Christi Health System, the largest health
system in Kansas. Via Christi includes established research
divisions and strong programs in resident education, especially
in orthopaedics. These programs are affiliated with the
University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita and
collaborations are ongoing with several national and
international engineering colleges, and with international
medical device manufacturers.
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
M.S. Mechanical Engineering, experience in device design,
competence in general computing, software, and hardware,
familiarity with computer aided design systems, ability to
interact and collaborate with affiliated staff.
The selected candidate will be responsible for the following:
**Define goals for the device design and analysis program and
devises and implements specific plans for achieving these goals.
**Protects and documents inventions, designs, ideas, software,
and similar intellectual property by establishing a quality
management system.
**Supports research director in preparation of annual budget and
other reports.
**Serves as computer consultant.
**Supervises technicians, fellows, visiting staff, and interns
as assigned.
**Conceives, plans, develops, and evaluates devices, instruments,
and systems for the use in orthopaedic surgery and other
medical specialties.
**Supports similar development efforts in other areas of health care.
**Prepares proposals for extramural support of device
development, applied research in support of device development,
and custom testing of devices.
