General Information:
The Department of Kinesiology is one of six departments in the College
of Health and Human Development. The department offers a comprehensive
educational experience in the study of human movement at the
undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate program emphasizes
a broad core curriculum as the basis for further study in upper division
options of athletic training, dance, exercise science and physical
education. Areas of specialization in the graduate program include
adapted physical education, biomechanics, exercise physiology, motor
behavior and pedagogy. There are currently more than 500 undergraduates
and 80 graduate students pursuing majors within the department.
The Department of Kinesiology is located in the newest and most
comprehensive facility in the CSU system. The 114,000 square-foot
state-of-the-art facility houses laboratories for biomechanics, exercise
physiology, motor behavior, motor development, movement education,
adapted physical education, sports medicine and computer applications.
In biomechanics, the lab includes 3D video analysis, force platform, and
telemetered electromyography capabilities that afford faculty the
opportunity to pursue interests in many areas of biomechanics,
including, but not limited to, sport performance, computer modeling, and
clinical evaluation.
