  • Faculty position in BME at WPI

    TimesGreetings,

    Please note contact information below:

The Biomedical Engineering (BE) Department of Worcester Polytechnic
Institute (WPI) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty
position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to begin as
early as July 1, 2000. Individuals with expertise in biomechanical
engineering are encouraged to apply. Candidates with a focus in
biomaterials science and design will be given strong preference. WPI
is the 3rd oldest, nationally ranked, technological university with
2,700 undergraduate and more than 1,000 full- and part-time graduate
students, and an innovative project-based education. Historically a
graduate-only program, the BE Department has recently initiated an
undergraduate curriculum through a Whitaker Foundation Special
Opportunities Award and will be graduating its first full class of 35
seniors in May 2000. Approximately 30 students pursue MS, Master of
Engineering, and PhD degrees per year. A joint PhD program in
Biomedical Engineering and Medical Physics also exists between WPI and
the University of Massachusetts Medical School (2 miles from WPI), with
emphases in tissue engineering, medical imaging, and biosensors.
Current biomechanical areas of interest on the WPI campus include:
tissue mechanics, orthopedic and dental biomechanics, cardiovascular
biomechanics, tissue engineering and biomaterials, biotransport,
rehabilitation engineering, kinesiology, and medical device design.
The Department has additional specialties in biosensors,
bioinstrumentation, magnetic resonance imaging, and optical imaging.

Applicants, with an earned doctorate, are expected to have a strong
commitment to high quality undergraduate and graduate engineering
education through teaching and advising, develop strong partnerships
with the medical device/biotechnology industry, as well as maintain an
active and funded research program. If you are interested in
contributing to the dramatic educational and research opportunities at
a small national university, please send a statement of research and
teaching interests, a curriculum vitae, and a list of five references
with addresses, telephone numbers, and email addressed to:

Christopher H. Sotak, Ph.D., Professor and Department Head, Biomedical
Engineering Department, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, 100 Institute
Road, Worcester, MA 01609-2280 USA. (Phone: 508-831-5447).

Review of applications will begin on December 15, 1999 and continue
until the position is filled. For additional information and inquiries
about the department and WPI visit: http://www.wpi.edu/+bme

To enrich education through diversity, WPI is an affirmative action,
equal opportunity employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to
    apply.

    Respectfully submitted,

    Sean S. Kohles, PhD
