We are seeking to develop a biological core for collaborative tissue
engineering projects within the newly established Department of Cell
Biology at the Institute of Ophthalmology. At least one of these posts will
have a dedicated tissue engineering brief: to provide a scientific lead in
a programme which targets the leading causes of blindness, developing novel
ex vivo model systems and tissue constructs. There will be a particular
emphasis on artificial cornea development. These posts should represent an
outstanding career development opportunity for well motivated candidates

SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURERS IN CELL BIOLOGY
The Institute of Ophthalmology at University College London is seeking to
recruit up to four outstanding investigators to establish independent
research groups within the newly created Department of Cell Biology. The
Institute of Ophthalmology, which received a 5* in the last RAE, has a
distinguished record of achievement and scholarship. The new Department of
Cell Biology, established in conjunction with Moorfields Eye Hospital,
seeks to further a major expansion of expertise in the core disciplines
underpinning cell biology and exciting new applications to issues relevant
to the treatment of eye disease.
Successful candidates will be highly motivated Cell/Molecular Biologists
currently working in any area of cell biology, but applications in the
fields of tissue engineering, wound healing, stem cell biology, and
cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions would be particularly welcome.
Candidates will be encouraged to participate in the development of
state-of-the-art imaging and post-genomic technologies. Exciting
opportunities will exist to develop cross-disciplinary collaborations that
will build towards an integrated approach to function and disease, in a
stimulating environment for clinical and academic cell and molecular
biology research. Superb new laboratory space and attractive start-up
packages are available. Appointments will be made at Senior Lecturer/Reader
or Lecturer level depending on experience and track record.
