Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials

Chair in Biomedical Materials
Applications are invited for the Directorship of the Interdisciplinary
Research Centre (IRC) in Biomedical Materials with a Chair in Biomedical
Materials at Queen Mary and Westfield College. The successful applicant
will succeed Professor William Bonfield, who is moving to the University of
Cambridge. During his leadership the IRC has developed into an outstanding
international research centre in Biomedical Materials.
The new Director will be expected to lead the IRC and to promote its
development beyond the current research activities. The IRC programme
currently covers Bone and Joint Replacement Materials; Orthopaedic Systems;
Dental Applications and Tissue Engineering. The IRC is based at Queen Mary
and Westfield College with associated laboratories at the Royal Free and
Institute of Orthopaedics Campuses of Royal Free and University College
Medical School. Plans for new laboratories are being prepared, allowing the
Director an early opportunity to develop and implement distinctive research
themes. Applications are welcome from engineers, scientists and clinicians
with an international reputation in any area of Biomaterials. An Honorary
clinical contract may be available to a suitably qualified appointee.
