The University of New Brunswick is inviting applicants for the position of Director, Institute of Biomedical Engineering (Fredericton Campus). This half-time position is accountable to the Vice-President (Research & International Cooperation) and an Advisory Council for the day-to-day administration of the Institute. This includes responsibility for all financial and personnel management aspects of the Institute.
The Institute is a multi-disciplinary research unit involved in a broad spectrum of activities in biomedical engineering. The mandate is to further education, research and community service in biomedical engineering. The Prosthetics Group offers specialized services to people with upper extremity amputation and has expanded their research to lower extremity prosthetics. The New Brunswick Hospitals Medical Engineering Program is another area within the Institute. This Program works with hospitals, through the provincial health department, in developing medical engineering facilities. Currently, the Institute has 13.5 positions, including that of the Director. These positions include administrative support, faculty, technical and clinical staff, most of which are dependent on continued research/grant funds and fee for service activity.
The Director co-ordinates the day-to-day administration of the Institute, liases with internal departments and advisory groups and with external funding sources, prepares and presents reports, workshops, etc. and supervises the work of graduate students.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This half-time appointment is for a term of up to 5 years and commences in January, 2000.
