Dear subscribers,
The Biomch-L moderators have approved Marco Viceconti's posting
and welcome his suggestion to use Biomch-L as a forum to discuss
his proposals for change in the European Society of Biomechanics.
Before anybody takes up Marco's invitation and starts a discussion,
I would like to propose the following:
- A discussion will be more fruitful if we wait first for an
official reaction from the executive council of the ESB.
I have been informed that this will come in the next week.
So I propose to delay any discussion until then.
- Also it should be noted that some of the points raised by Marco
apply equally well to other societies. Many Biomch-L subscribers
are members or former members of other societies, and I would
like to invite them to contribute the discussion also. Many
Biomch-L subscribers are not a member of any society, and it
might be good to hear from them why they are not.
- Marco's intention was not just to point out what is wrong, but
also to propose solutions and help societies adapt to be more
successful, better serve the interests of their members, and as
a result increase their membership. I suggest that a subsequent
discussion should have the same intentions and be constructive.
