    Job Description

    Title: Biomechanical Engineer
Location: Human Performance Laboratory, Center on Aging, University of Kansas Medical Center

An applicant with an MS in Bioengineering or other engineering discipline with an interest in biomechanical projects would be well-suited for this position. Candidates with a background in kinesiology or other field may apply but consideration will be given first to those with experience in this type of environment. Daily responsibilities require a significant amount of self-motivation and independent problem solving. Familiarity with computer applications is essential, and programming experience with Matlab and Labview is preferred. This position will involve routine data collection and data processing for the ongoing Pepper Grant and VA projects in addition to numerous pilot and collaborative studies. Several studies may require programming during project development. The successful applicant will be responsible for ongoing maintenance of laboratory equipment which includes 3 AMTI force plates, CYBEX dynamometer, GaitRite system, Noraxon 8-channel telemetric EMG unit, 64 channel multiplexer, A/D board, and other miscellaneous items. This person will also be involved in initial setup of the lab in the new Center on Aging facility to open in September of 2000. At that time, a VICON system and an additional force plate will also be purchased.
