    You are cordially invited to participate in "Production Engineering Design
    and Control" forum PEDAC'2001 (February 13-15, 2001). This convention is an annual convention,
    which is hosted by one of the four Egyptian major universities (Cairo -Alexandria -
    Ein Shams - Asyut) since 1979. Some 500 scientists, industrialists and officials in the fields
    of production engineering, design, industrial engineering and control from Egypt, Arab
    and foreign countries, as well as invited international distinguished researchers and
    intellectuals participate in the convention multi activities. PEDAC'2001 will be held in
    the historical beautiful city of Alexandria of Egypt and is hosted by the production
    Engineering Department, Alexandria University.

    Invitation to PEDAC'2001
    It is a great pleasure to invite you to PEDAC' 2001 held in Alexandria,
    EGYPT 13 -15 February 2001. The special event of having PEDAC in the
    beginning of the 21st century reveals the importance and the objectives of
    the conference.
    Since the first Conference in 1980, PEDAC has been one of the major and
    interesting conventions. It attracts scholars, industrialists and Egyptian
    government officials.
    The aim of PEDAC' 2001 is to provide an up-to-date state of the art in the
    area of Production and Industrial Engineering, Design and Control with
    special emphasis on sustainable development towards global manufacturing.
    The conference can be seen as a forum for presentation and critical
    discussion of research results and applications carried out at Universities,
    Research Institutions and Industry.
    During the Conference, a number of panel discussions and workshops are to be
    conducted. An attractive social program will be organized as well.
    PEDAC' 2001 is an enormous opportunity for international exchange of
    technical views as well as strengthening the links between national and
    international industry and Academic Institutions. We hope that this
    conference will contribute in accomplishing these goals.

    Abstracts:
    Authors are invited to submit three copies of the abstract (100 - 200
    words). It should include the following information:
    - Main subject area and keywords
    - Name(s) of Author(s)
    - Affiliation(s)
    - Postal address and the corresponding author
    - Telephone, fax numbers and e-mail address.

    Publication:
    Papers presented at the conference will be included in the conference
    proceedings. Specifics on formats and paper length will be sent upon
    acceptance.

    Instruction to Authors:
    Papers and abstracts are accepted for review on the condition that the
    manuscript is original, has not previously been published or presented at a
    conference, and has not been submitted for presentation at another
    conference. A national and international advisory committee will referee all
    contributions. A detailed list of the advisory committee will be appended to
    the conference proceedings.

    Key Dates:
    Abstracts: 31 March 2000
    Preliminary acceptance: 30 April 2000
    Complete manuscript: 31 July 2000
    Final acceptance: 15 September 2000

    Keynote Lectures:
    Keynote speeches covering recent trends in Technology Transfer, Global
    Manufacturing, Environmental friendly industry and Green Technology.

    Panel Discussions:
    SME: Projects and development
    Sustainable development
    Environment cost-benefit trade-off
    It will involve practitioners, officials, and scholars to exchange ideas on
    current challenges of Egyptian production for export and e-commerce, with
    special emphasis on creating new markets.

    Workshops:
    Leading international and national corporations are invited to participate
    and present the unrevealed developments in hardware and software.

    Exhibition:
    A comprehensive exhibit of related research and industrial equipment will
    take place during the conference. Prospective exhibitors, please inquire by
    using the detachable registration form.

    Pre-Conference training sessions:
    One-day training parallel sessions in modern trends in manufacturing,
    material science, design, control, inspection and quality, and industrial
    engineering and management will be offered.

    Social Program:
    The social and spouse program includes tours to Alexandria, north cost,
    Bourg El Arab industrial estate and El Alamine. The conference official
    touring agency can arrange tours to major tourism sites including Pyramids,
    Luxor, Aswan, Hurghada and Sinai. Since the conference will be held during
    the tourist peak season, early reservation is required.

    Conference Venue:
    The conference will be held in the Alexandria Conferences Hall. The modern
    elegant Alexandria Conferences Hall is next to the new Alexandria Library.
    The library will be open by the fourth quarter of year 2000. The new huge
    Alexandria Library project is supported with UNESCO and foreign governments
    and international organizations to commemorate the old famed library.
    Alexandria library was the largest and most famous of ancient collections of
    scrolls. It contained more than 400,000 scrolls.
    Alexandria is the second largest city and main port of EGYPT where about 40%
    of the Egyptian Industry are situated. It was built by the Greek architect
    Dinocrates (332 - 331 B.C.) on the site of an old fishing village (Rakotis)
    north-west to the Nile delta, by the order of Alexander the great king of
    Macedonia. The Ptolemies made Alexandria the capital of Egypt, the city
    flourished as a center of trade and culture. Arabs moved the capital of
    Egypt from Alexandria to Cairo in A.D. 642. Early in the 19th Century Under
    the rule of Mohamed Ali, Alexandria regained its importance as a port. The
    historic role of foreigners has given Alexandria a strong international
    flavor. In the last few years Alexandria has been and is still undergoing
    outstanding renovation projects.

    circulated papers and reports, and the conference proceedings.
