ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY
The University of Southern California
Department of Exercise Science
Position: Applications are invited for a tenure track faculty position at
the Assistant Professor level in the Department of Exercise Science,
commencing September 1, 2000.
Qualifications: By the time of appointment, applicants must have
fulfilled all requirements for their Ph.D. degree. The degree earned
should be relevant to the areas of muscle mechanics, muscle physiology,
muscle metabolism, biomechanics and/or any specialization area that would
be relevant to the current research efforts of the Department of Exercise
Science at the University of Southern California. Candidates must
demonstrate evidence of scholarly productivity and potential for external
funding. Post-doctoral experience is highly desired.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate's responsibilities will include
development of an independent research laboratory, publication in
peer-reviewed journals, acquisition of external funding for research,
instruction at the undergraduate and graduate level, and supervision of
graduate students. Additionally, this individual will be expected to
contribute to the service of the Department and/or University. Successful
candidates will have excellent verbal and communications skills and will be
able to work effectively and cohesively with other teaching, research, and
administrative personnel.
Department: The Department of Exercise Science is located within the
College of Letters, Arts and Sciences and offers both undergraduate and
graduate degrees in Exercise Science. The undergraduate degree program
leads to a B.S. in Exercise Science. At that level we strive to provide
our predominately pre-health students with an in depth understanding of
human physiological systems and their response to stress. At the graduate
level the focus is on Ph.D. level work in the areas of biomechanics,
physiology and psychology. The Doctoral degree program is based on
externally funded research programs and is designed to produce strong,
independent academic investigators.
