Dear subscribers,
Today Biomch-L has surpassed the number of 4000 subscribers.
What a change from our humble beginnings in 1988 when Herman Woltring
founded Biomch-L. His hard work resulted in an exponential increase
in membership. Herman was killed in an automobile accident in November
1992 when the list had 700 subscribers. But Biomch-L was already well
established in the biomechanics community and just kept growing.
Today the second derivative of list membership is clearly negative
(when sufficiently low-pass filtered...) and we should stabilize
between 4000 and 5000 members. This means that Biomch-L will reach
most of the biomechanists in the world.
Biomch-L has subscribers from 62 countries, see the list below. It
should be noted that the numbers from the United States are exaggerated
since this includes everybody with a .com, .org, or .net address, and
that Niue is a small pacific island which probably gets some income
from selling Internet domain names. Seventeen subscribers have
chosen to use the CONCEAL option and are not included in this overview.
The historical overview of Biomch-L membership can be seen at

The success of this group can be attributed to those who submit good
postings. This is what makes people stay subscribed, for fear of missing
something important! A big thank you to all who post, and keep up the
good work. We need to keep providing good content. That is the only
way to preserve this unique method of reaching all of our worldwide
colleagues with one simple E-mail message.
Also a big thank you to my co-moderators, Krystyna Gielo-Perczak, Mike Young,
Drew Smith, and Andreas Boehm. Biomch-L could not exist without them.
