  • 7th Injury Biomechanics Symposium - The Ohio State University

We would like to invite you to attend the 2011 Injury Biomechanics Symposium which will be held May 22nd through May 24th, 2011 at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The purpose of the symposium is to stimulate and reward strong injury biomechanics research among students and recent graduates. Attendees can expect original biomechanics research in a forum intended to foster communication between developing and established researchers.

We are pleased to announce that 14 universities from around the world will be participating in the symposium. The symposium will feature 9 oral presentations and 12 posters. A small sample of the experimental and theoretical topics to be discussed includes:

    • Biofidelity Evaluation of Rear Impact ATDs
    • EMG Responses of Pediatric & Adult Volunteers in Frontal Impacts
    • Modeling & Simulation of High Strain-Rate Response (Blast Induced) of Brain Tissue
    • Planar Analysis of Visceral Response to Thoraco-Abdominal Impacts
    • Isolated Segmentation Manipulation to Characterize Dynamic Response of Biomechanical Structures
    • Inertial Effects of Booster Seats on 3 Year-Old ATDs
    • Correlations Between CT Density and Material Properties of Lower Limb Bones

    Other Symposium events will include:

 The 2nd Annual IBS Golf Outing will pair students and members of government & industry in a scramble format. Those interested in attending this event should send an email to biotraum@osu.edu with your name, institutional affiliation, and whether you will need to rent clubs.  Guest speakers including
    - Dr. Pat Bishop, PhD, Professor Emeritus of the University of Waterloo
    - Duane Detwiler, Manager of the Vehicle Research Operations Department at Honda R&D Americas, Inc
    - Michael Tegtmeyer and Risa Scherer will discuss WIAMan (Warrior Injury Assessment Mannequin)

 Banquet at The Ohio State University Faculty Club

 Dr. Margaret H. Hines Award (plaque & monetary award) given to the best oral presenter and best poster presenter
