  • *REMINDER* Early Registration Deadline for the Injury Biomechanics Symposium: May 1st

Note that the early registration deadline for the 2012 Injury Biomechanics Symposium is next Tuesday, May 1st.

A registration form can be downloaded at: http://www.osuibrl.org/symposium/registration/
Instructions for payment, as well as a mailing address and fax number for submission, are included on the form. An updated agenda document is also on the website.

Please refer to the details in the email below for any additional questions regarding the content of the 2012 Injury Biomechanics Symposium.

**Announcing the 2012 Injury Biomechanics Symposium: May 13-15, 2012 at The Ohio State University**
The Technical Committee would like to extend an invitation to attend the 2012 Injury Biomechanics Symposium will be held May 13th through May 15th, 2012, at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. The purpose of the symposium is to stimulate and reward strong injury biomechanics research among students and recent graduates. Attendees can expect original biomechanics research in a forum intended to foster communication between developing and established researchers.

We are pleased to announce that 13 universities from around the world will be participating in the symposium, featuring 11 oral presentations and 12 posters. A small sample of the experimental and theoretical topics to be discussed includes:

    • High rate behavior of the cervical spine elements
    • Finite element analysis of the injury potential of shock-induced compressive waves on human bone
    • Validation of full body finite element model in lateral sled and drop impacts
    • Biomechanical response of the pediatric ankle
    • Improving spine biofidelity of the HYBRID-III 6-year-old ATD
    • Modeling trajectories of human volunteers in low-speed frontal impacts using Bezier curves
    • Chest injuries of vulnerable road users – application of the THOMO model to a frontal crash setup
    • Design and development of a surrogate bruising detection system to describe bruising patterns in children

    Other Symposium events to note:

 The 3rd Annual IBS Golf Outing on Sunday, May 13th, will pair students and members of government & industry in a scramble format. Those interested in attending this event should send an email to biotraum@osu.edu with your name, institutional affiliation, and whether you will need to rent clubs. For more information, please visit our website here.

 Welcome reception with food and drinks at the Varsity Club on Sunday, May 13th

 Banquet at The Ohio State University Faculty Club

 Keynote Address by Professor Dinesh Mohan, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi

     Guest speakers including
    - Dr. Richard Kent, PhD, Professor, Center for Applied Biomechanics, University of Virginia
    - Dr. Joel Stitzel, PhD, Virginia Tech-Wake Forest University Center for Injury Biomechanics
    - Mark Scarboro, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, The Crash Injury Research and Engineering Network (CIREN)

 Dr. Margaret H. Hines Award (plaque & monetary award) given to the best oral presenter and best poster presenter

An agenda (http://www.osuibrl.org/symposium/age...IBS_Agenda.pdf) and registration form (http://www.osuibrl.org/symposium/reg..._form_2012.doc) can be downloaded at www.osuibrl.org. To register please follow the directions on the form. Please note that registering by Tuesday, May 1st will qualify you for a reduced registration fee, as indicated on the registration form.
