    We are pleased to announce the call for abstracts for the 18th Annual Scientific meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Orthopaedic Society to be held from Thursday August 30 (Registration and Welcome Reception) – Saturday September 1, 2012 in Perth at the The University Club of Western Australia, The University of Western Australia.

    All abstracts will be reviewed by our Scientific Committee to ensure a continued high standard of presentations in the following general themes of Orthopaedic Research:

    Biomaterials and Skeletal Tissue Engineering
    Biomedical Engineering and Modelling
    Biomedical Imaging
    Bone Biology
    Clinical Orthopaedic Research
    From Kinematics/Gait to the Clinic
    Joint Regeneration

    The 2011 meeting was a great success with record attendance and participation levels from research groups across Australia and New Zealand and we are looking forward to another successful meeting in WA this year. We will also be organising dedicated student award presentation sessions for both PhD students and early career researchers (0-5 years postdoc) and supporting a number of students/ECRs to attend with Travel Grants to cover the cost of return airfares.

    Our Keynote Speakers will cover a diverse range of Orthopaedic Research and are listed below:
    Prof Dennis Discher: Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Bioengineering, and Mechanical Engineering and Member Institute for Medicine and Engineering, University of Pennsylvania, USA
    Prof Vicki Rosen: Department Head and Professor of Developmental Biology, Harvard University, USA
    Prof Alan Grodzinsky: Professor of Mechanical, Electrical, and Biological Engineering, Director, MIT Center for Biomedical Engineering, MIT, USA
    Prof Mark Taylor: Professor of Biomedical Engineering, School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics, Flinders University. Previously Professor of Bioengineering Science and Head of Bioengineering Science Research Group, University of Southampton, UK
    Professor Pamela Yelik: Director of the Division of Craniofacial and Molecular Genetics, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, School of Dental Medicine, Tufts University, MA, USA

    • Monday, May 28, 5 pm (EST) – Abstract AND Travel Grant submission deadlines
    • Friday, June 22 – Notification of oral/poster acceptance AND Travel Grant recipients
    • Early bird registration - Before Monday, July 30, 5 pm EST
