    Engineering of Sport 10

The Centre for Sports Engineering Research at Sheffield Hallam University is proud to announce that it will be the host of the 2014 Conference of the International Sports Engineering Association (ISEA). The biennial conference is returning to Sheffield, 18 years after Professor Steve Haake founded the ISEA. The 2014 conference will be the 10th edition in the series and will attract a truly international delegation of leading academic and industry researchers.

Delegates will enjoy a hugely stimulating and enjoyable conference week. The scientific programme will provide the opportunity to discover and debate the latest developments in sports research, whilst the extensive social programme will provide unique experiences and help to foster friendships old and new. Full details of the scientific and social programme can be found here.
We are very pleased to announce that Professor Steve Haake and Professor Mont Hubbard are confirmed keynote speakers. These two giants of sports engineering research were made ISEA Fellows in 2012 and their keynote presentations are sure to be conference highlights. The scientific programme will include additional keynote and panel discussions from leading industry and academic experts. Full details will be announced in due course.

Industry and academic researchers are invited to submit their original work for inclusion in the conference proceedings. Papers will be blind peer reviewed and published by Elsevier Procedia Engineering in a hard bound book of proceedings, and online at Science Direct. Authors will be given the opportunity to present their research through either an oral presentation, or a poster presentation.
The conference will address the full breadth of sports engineering research and will discuss topical issues. Conference themes will include:

    • Sports equipment mechanics
    • Fluid mechanics in sport
    • Sports surfaces
    • Sports equipment measurement
    • Athlete measurement
    • Sports performance strategy.

    Abstract and paper submission

Industry and academic researchers are invited to submit their original work for inclusion in the conference proceedings. The publication process has two stages:

    1. Submission of a short abstract detailing the nature and scope of the research; if work is not yet complete, the abstract can be a statement of intent. The deadline for the submission of abstracts is 12th July 2013. Submit your abstract here, www.isea2014reg.com.

    2. Successful authors will be invited to submit a full 6 page paper before 1st November 2013. Full papers will be blind peer reviewed and published by Elsevier Procedia Engineering in a hard bound book of proceedings, and open access online.

Authors will present their research papers at the conference via either an oral presentation, or a poster presentation. Unlike previous editions of the conference, a full paper must accompany all poster presentations.

    Awards and prizes

Authors will be eligible to win one of four prestigious awards with significant prize value. Awards will be announced at the banquet on the final night of the conference.

    UK Sport Technology Innovation Prize

Awarded to the poster presentation which exhibits the most promising technological innovation in sports engineering. The prize has a value of £500.

    Adidas Footwear Prize

Awarded to the paper which demonstrates ground-breaking engineering research in the area of sports footwear performance. The prize has a value of £500.

    ISEA Student Investigator Prize

Awarded to the best oral presentation of a student's original research. Student authors will be shortlisted and finalists will be invited to present their work in a special session. The award will be given to the best oral presentation. Finalists will share prizes with a total value of £500.

The Centre for Sports Engineering Research Prize

Awarded to the best research paper presented at the conference, from any author, on any topic.
Full details of the paper submission process, awards and prizes can be found on the conference website here, www.isea2014.com
