Multisim Modelathon
Your invitation to a three day competition aimed at PhD students and post-doc researchers to solve a multiscale biomechanical problem and chance to win prizes!
Date: Wednesday 7 – Friday 9 September 2016, The Ridge, The University of Sheffield
To register visit: The University of Sheffield online store
Registration deadline is Friday 29 April 2016
Dear colleague,
If you are a PhD student or post-doctoral researcher working in the area of biomechanics, computational modelling or image-based computer simulations this competition could be an amazing chance for you to work as a part of a team, collaborate with researchers from all over the world to overcome specific multiscale modelling challenges in front of industry and academic experts, learn new skills and make new friends along the way. Each of the 5 winning participants will receive Amazon gift vouchers of £100.
Our event aims to train the best minds in the area of multiscale modelling using the concept of a hackathon where different teams work on a challenging problem to ‘hack’ computer code. This event, however, uses ‘modelling’ rather than 'hacking'!
By utilising computer simulations, participants will compete to find quicker and more effective methods of addressing musculoskeletal and cardiovascular diseases. The three challenges will be based on the subject of multiscale biomechanics and teams will have access to state-of-the-art techniques and software to help them overcome these multiscale problems. This year's Modelathon with focus more on the clinical side of modelling and builds on the original format, making it bigger and better than ever!
Event registration
Register at The University of Sheffield online store by 29 April 2016 to book your place.
The event is limited to 50 participants and will involve a selection process based on information you provide during registration regarding:
-your academic background and expertise (up to 300 words)
-what you can bring to the Modelathon (up to 300 words)
You will receive feedback on your application by 16 May 2016. Successful applicants will then need to pay a £150 event fee that covers materials, refreshments, all meals and accommodation for the three day event.
Last year’s event was highly successful among our participants and industrial sponsors. Luca, a winning participant at Modelathon 2015 quoted:
‘At the beginning the proposed challenges seemed intimidating, but I think we worked great as a team, complementing individual expertise, supporting each other and also having fun. The Modelathon as a whole has been a great experience and we were very happy to be chosen as winners!’
We look forward to seeing you soon!
