Course Description:
This one day course highlights current research and practice for the treatment of musculoskeletal shoulder disorders. The symposium will cover a wide range of topics that have direct clinical application. Current literature will be used to provide a strong evidence-based approach for evaluation, surgical and non-surgical management, and interventions for the treatment of musculoskeletal shoulder disorders.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
- Explain the significance of both the patho-anatomic diagnosis and rehabilitation classification for common shoulder disorders
- Determine if scapular dyskinesis is present and relevant to the a patient’s presentation of shoulder pain
- Examine current rehabilitation strategies and choose appropriate techniques for musculoskeletal shoulder pain
- Select physical examination tests to diagnoses musculoskeletal shoulder pain based on current diagnostic accuracy evidence
- Discuss treatment strategies for operative, post-operative, and non-operative management of instability, rotator cuff disease, and frozen shoulder
- Discuss treatment strategies for post-operative treatment for instability, rotator cuff repair, shoulder arthroplasty, and labral injuries.
- Describe the predictors of shoulder/ elbow injuries in baseball, and strategies to prevent injuries
