Humans in Motion - Der Mensch in Bewegung

Scope:
Human Motion is investigated within various scientific fields, such as Biomechanics, Sports Science, Robotics, Psychology, Philosophy, Medicine, Mathematics & Computer Science. The Summer School aims at bringing together junior and senior scientists from these fields to study and discuss their mutual methodology to create synergies and establish an interdisciplinary view on the matter. It is designed to give students at advanced MSc and PhD level as well as young PostDocs an insight on different approaches used for acquisition and analysis of human motion as well as on the theoretical background of motion and embodiment in general.
Topics will include
- Acquisition, representation and quantitative analysis of human motion
- Dynamic modeling of anthropomorphic systems
- Offline and online optimal control methods for human motion analysis
- Phenomenology of living motion
- The role of motion in psychotherapy
- Movement and meaning / spatial embodiment
- Quantitative assessment of movement in sports science
- The role of pain in human motion
- Mathematical modeling of neural and muscle activity
- Motion perception in infants and their neurological foundations

Organization:
The school will include lectures, tutorials, computer exercises, a poster session and free time slots for individual scientific exchange among the participants and speakers. The registration fee of EUR 300 includes accommodation from September 23 to September 29 in twin rooms, all meals except dinner on the two free evenings and the conference dinner at the Heidelberg castle. Depending on availability, single rooms can be provided for a surcharge. For students from institutions with no funding possibility, the participation fee can be reduced upon application in a very limited number of cases.
Participation:
The school is open to PhD students and senior MSc students as well as young PostDocs. Due to space limitations, the applicants will be selected based on their application. Interested students are invited to submit a short application including a letter of motivation, an abstract (500 words) for the poster session and a CV on the summer school website:
