10th International DOD State-of-the-Science Meeting on Blast Injury: Toward a Unified Multiscale Computational Model of the Human Body’s Immediate Responses to Blast-Related Trauma

The Blast Injury Prevention Coordinating Office is hosting the 10th International DOD State-of-the-Science Meeting on Blast Injury. The title for this year's meeting is "Toward a Unified Multiscale Computational Model of the Human Body’s Immediate Responses to Blast-Related Trauma." In 2009, the Blast Injury Research Coordinating Office (BIRCO) established the State-of-the-Science Meeting (SoSM) Series to assist the DoD Executive Agent for Medical Research for Prevention, Mitigation, and Treatment of Blast Injuries in identifying blast injury research needs, and to help shape the DoD’s blast injury research programs to fill critical knowledge gaps. These meetings bring together top researchers from across the DoD, other Federal agencies, academia, industry, and the international community to determine what is known, and what is unknown, about specific blast injury topics. The 10^th International DoD SoSM on Blast Injury, “Toward a Unified Multiscale Computational Model of the Human Body’s Immediate Responses to Blast-Related Trauma”, will take place in Washington, D.C. 22-24 March 2022. The objectives of the 2022 meeting are to:

1. Assess the state-of-the-science of unified multi-scale modeling of the human body’s responses to blast exposure,
2. Identify major barriers and knowledge gaps impeding progress in the field, along with opportunities for investment in future research,
3. Identify additional opportunities for collaborative action (both governmental and public-private) that could accelerate progress, and
4. Provide recommendations to advance pre-clinical and clinical research, determine key policy gaps, and identify areas to advance product development (prediction, protection, and prevention).

We anticipate as many as 120 participants at the upcoming meeting. This will be a working meeting, and attendees will be highly encouraged to actively participate and share information and ideas. The meeting will include plenary and poster sessions along with working group discussions.
