The United States Bone and Joint Initiative (USBJI) will be hosting its Spring 2023 Young Investigators Initiative Workshop on April 14-16, 2023 in Rosemont, IL (near Chicago’s O’Hare Airport).
The Young Investigator Initiative (YII) is a grant mentoring program that provides early-career investigators with an opportunity to work with experienced and supportive mentors on how to construct a well-founded research proposal and secure funding for basic, translational, or clinical research.
To date, over 276 participants have successfully obtained over $570 million in grants for nearly 2,000 new musculoskeletal research studies.
This program focuses upon North America (US and Canada) whose young investigators traditionally compete for NIH and other US funding agency support for their research.

Participants consider this program instrumental to their success. They consider the one-on-one mentoring with experienced researchers, the opportunity for inter-disciplinary and peer-to-peer exchange, and collaborations established during workshops indispensable.

This grant mentoring and career development program is open to promising junior faculty, senior fellows or post-doctoral researchers nominated by their department or division chairs seeking to pursue a career in clinical or basic research. It is also open to senior fellows or residents that are doing research and have a faculty appointment in place or confirmed.
Basic and clinical investigators, without or with training awards, are invited to apply. The unique aspect of this program is the opportunity for attendees to maintain a relationship with a mentor until their application is funded.
The Spring 2023 workshop will take place on April 14-16, 2023, in Rosemont, IL (near Chicago’s O’Hare Airport). The deadline to apply for the Spring 2023 workshop is Friday, February 24, 2023.
