  • Webcast June 4, 2024: New Thoracic Spine, Ribcage and Abdominal Model

Learn how to use the new generic rigid-body thoracic spine, ribcage and abdominal model developed in the AnyBody Modeling System.

Join us as we delve into a technical overview of the model, alongside practical examples, such as scoliotic postures.

The new thoracic spine and ribcage model is controlled with spine posture and the ribcage kinematics will be handled by the newly defined constraints. The model is simple to use and able to simulate a wide variety of activities of daily living (spine bending and breathing) and pathological deformities (e.g. scoliosis). In addition to this it is also advantageous for motion capture applications, which includes the thoracic spine and ribcage.

The new abdominal model comprises flexible volumes capable of accommodating pressure variations. The pressure is bound by the pelvic and diaphragm supero-inferiorly. The diaphragm transfers the pressure force to inferior ribcage segments (rib10, 11, 12, and inferior sternum). The abdominal muscles (including transversus, rectus abdominis, and obliquus) exert force on the abdominal volumes, effectively handling the pressure force anteriorly.
