  • Pressure measurement system recommendation

    Hello all,

I'm finding some pressure measurement systems for measuring the human-product interaction forces.
The target products may be fitness machines, rehabilitation devices or exoskeletons.

I could find that there are two famous vendors: Tekscan and novel.
Those two vendors sell various types of pressure measurement for grip, insole and mat interfaces.
But when I investigated the prices of those systems, I found that they are very expensive so it may be a burden to a single laboratory.

So I'd like to get your advice.
Q1) Are there relatively cheaper systems that can measure pressure distribution?
Q2) I've heard that those systems usually can measure only normal pressure distribution.
Then, is there any commercial system that can measure both normal and share forces?

Best regards and thanks very much in advance,
    Moonki

@ Q1: You can get cheaper systems/sensors but you cannot get reliable data with cheaper systems! Be sure to use a system that provides relaible and accurate measurements of the duration of your project / investigation and use a system that you can calibrate for each sensor/sensing element if you want good data.

@ Q2: There are no commercially successful developments, previous attempts have so far only been developed up to a successful prototype stage, as far as I have observed. It seems to be a twofold problem: too tricky and not enough market interest.

    Cheers,
    Dieter Rosenbaum...

I am working on a project here that uses an XSENSOR pressure mat. 25 cm square, 100x100 sensor array. Just to add to the list of possible companies to check out.

        Dear Dieter,

Thank you very much for your kind advice.
As you told, I just want to know whether there other reliable and accurate measurement systems except those I mentioned above.

        Best regards,
        Moonki

          Dear Greg,

Thanks very much for your information. I'll look into XSENSOR in detail.

          Best regards,

            Dear Moonki,

Have you heard of WalkinSense? It's an in-shoe system that can measure dynamic plantar-pressure distribution and lower-limb activity (speed, cadence etc.) simultaneously. If you are looking for something that is affordable and very easy-to-use, I am sure you will find this very interesting.

You can look at www.tomorrow-options.com for a short video of the device.

            Kind regards
            Kunal

                Hi Moonki,

Hope you are doing good! I was just wondering if you got the time to have a look at the system and if you have any questions. You can also contact me via my email: k.khanna@tomorrow-options.com if you want.
