Ultimate stress or failure load of degenerative discs

I am looking for information on ultimate stress or failure loads of lumbar motion segments (specifically intervertebral discs) with and without degeneration (desiccation, annular tears, osteophytes) as well as before and after surgical interventions (microdiscectomy and discectomy). I have come across a reference from Genaidy from 1993 and Yamada's book from 1970 that cover general failure loads and stresses, but they do not cover degeneration or surgical intervention

Dear John,

You have not mentioned the species of the IVD that you are interested in. However, I am sure there are more literature on the subject, especially on "healthy" IVD.
Have a look on the following two papers:
