In our lab, we use Labview to collect and analyze data from our force plates. While I have been able to disassemble the programs we use, I would like to find some formal training in use of the program beyond the basic tutorials provided with the software. The training provided by NI are probably the best, but at $1800 a course, it is something that I am unable to utilize. Does anyone have suggestions on other options for learning Labview?

Welcome to LabVIEW! I hope you are enjoying learning it so far. I actually work for NI and have taught our training classes in the past, so I wanted to give you a little bit of guidance on ways you could potentially learn LabVIEW on a budget.
Buying the course manuals and review at your own speed- This can be a bit dry or tedious, like reading a textbook, but that is going to be the cheapest option, about $330.
Instructor led online LabVIEW training- A little cheaper than our classroom courses, a live instructor presents materials in an online classroom environment and you can log into remote machines to complete the exercises. LabVIEW Core 1 Online runs about $1200. You still get the benefit of having a live NI Engineer present the material so you can ask questions, etc, but you don't have to travel anywhere and it's only 4 hours a day, so you can spend the rest of your day on your projects and don't fall too far behind.
Using the Web - There are a couple of resources on ni.com that are particularly geared towards Learning LabVIEW.
Getting Started with LabVIEW
LabVIEW 101: Video Instruction for Students
Utilize the Thousands of Other Engineers Using LabVIEW in the ni.com Community
Additionally, if you'd really like to take the classroom option but are looking for manager support, you can review some data on the Value of Training to explain the benefits of taking the courses. We also have additional discounts for our training if you are a student.
I hope this helps!
Best regards,
Mallori Martin

Re: Labview Training
Hi George,
I'd like to pipe up here as well and offer the possibility of online LabVIEW training taught in an on-demand (self-paced) format through instructional videos. Sixclear offers such a course and you can see it at sixclear.com/labviewtraining. The course comprises about a week's worth of training, including lecture videos, exercise manuals, solution code, and solution videos where the instructors walks through implementation of each exercise step.
The cost is $899 for industry or $299 for academic.
Feel free to send me an email if you like at brian dot spears at sixclear dot com and I can tell you more about it.
Good luck to you in training!
Brian Spears
