  • Max bending forces of hallux

    Dear all,

I am looking for maximal bending forces of the hallux.

During my physics undergrad studies we had to calculate if a stiletto could break a big toe when a lady wearing such shoes steps accidentally on someone's toe. I would like to use this example, but would require correct max bending force data of the hallux…. So far, I was not able to find any numbers. Many thanks for your help!

    Best wishes,

    Magrit,
Are you asking about bending of the hallux at the interphalngeal joint or are you interested in mechanical properties of proximal or distal phalanx?

      Jim,
It would be the mechanical bending properties, i.e. bending normally to the longitudinal axis, of the distal phalanges of the big toe (hallux). I have added a quick drawing (not to scale) in order to illustrate what I mean. Hope it helps! Thanks in advance for your help!
