Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society Young Investigator Award – Deadline 10/19

As the student representative, I am very pleased to announce that the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society (GCMAS) has made several very exciting changes in support of student members. Starting in 2012, student membership was reduced to $10/year. With membership, students have access to member information on the website, mentoring opportunities, and options for subscribing to the journal Gait & Posture either electronically, in print, or both. I encourage all students in the field of movement analysis to join. GCMAS is a multi-disciplinary organization of physicians, allied health professionals, engineers, biomechanists and scientists working together to advance scientific knowledge, technical capabilities, and clinical practice in the field of human movement. This is not strictly a gait society. We are a society focused on improving treatment outcomes and quality of life for persons with movement disorders; this includes, for example, upper extremity pathologies, sports injuries, and rehabilitation. To learn more, please see our recently updated mission statement at http://www.gcmas.org/node/158.

The upcoming conference for the GCMAS will be held May 14-17 in Cincinnati, Ohio, hosted by Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Abstract submissions are due October 19, 2011. Student members that submit abstracts to the upcoming conference will be automatically considered for the GCMAS Young Investigator Award. Students of all levels, including postdoctoral fellows, are eligible. This award includes a $1000 prize that may be used toward expenses for the 2013 meeting. For abstract submission instructions, please see the meeting website:

Travel awards for the 2013 conference in Cincinnati will also be available. Through the generosity of sponsors and GCMAS membership, students may apply for these awards. Applications for travel awards are due February 15, 2012. Additional information and application instructions are available at:

The 2013 Program Committee has students in mind. All students are invited to attend the annual student mixer on Wednesday, May 14, which will be proceeded by a career-related tutorial. There will be a grant writing workshop and other student-related events.

If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to contact me. Don’t forget to join us on Facebook (www.facebook.com/gcmas) and Twitter (twitter.com/gcmas) to keep up with abstract and conference updates. I look forward to meeting everyone at the student mixer in Cincinnati!
