Student Mentorship Program
Since 2009, the GCMAS Education Committee has organized a mentorship program in which student mentees are matched with a volunteer mentor based on mutual research interests and the student’s desired career path. The goal of this program is to facilitate dialog among students and professionals in a supportive manner, where knowledge, skills, and experiences are shared, and where networking relationships are cultivated. Typically, mentors and mentees meet over lunch or during a scheduled break at the annual meeting.
Individuals who would like to participate in this program at the 2013 Meeting are encouraged to contact Jenna Yentes (jyentes@unomaha.edu) with the following information:
Name and institution
Preferred contact information (mailing address, email address, phone, etc.)
Are you a potential mentor, or mentee?
What are your primary research interests? (brief summary)
What is your current role, and what are your professional goals?
The GCMAS Education Council will attempt to match each mentee with an appropriate mentor. Notification of mentor/mentee matches will be sent in April 2013. Following notification, it is the mentee’s responsibility to contact his/her assigned mentor. More details on the Student Mentorship Program will be sent to students who register for the conference.

Grant Writing Workshop

This workshop will be taught by Dr. Howard Hillstrom, who has been participating as a faculty member with the US Bone and Joint Initiative Young Investigators Grant Workshop since 2010 doing exactly this same sort of thing but in a much more expanded format (2 weekends, formal mentor assignments, etc) and we have a 40% funding success rate for our young investigator participants.
Student Career Symposium
On Tuesday 5/14, the GCMAS will host its second Student Career Symposium. Building off the success of last year’s symposium, this session will again be free of charge to all attendees and will be immediately followed by the Student Mixer.
This symposium is designed to answer questions related to careers in movement analysis.
The symposium will consist of three 20-minute talks followed by a panel discussion. Students are invited to anonymously submit questions for the panelists. At the beginning of the symposium, the organizers will hand out 3x5 cards, students will be encouraged to write down any question(s), and panelists will answer these questions during the discussion. The panel includes students, postdoctoral scholars, and professionals from diverse backgrounds.
Please be sure to RSVP for this exciting symposium while completing your conference registration.
Speakers and Panelists will be listed as they are confirmed.
