  • sEMG Normalization for crutch users

    Hi everyone,

My research is about the activation levels of amputee football players while using forearm crutches (walking, running, shooting). When i was reading the literature, we chose the MVIC for being able to see percentages. We can use mean or peak dynamic activation methods but these methods can only give me the patterns of muscle activation over time. We used Manuel Muscle Testing protocols for upper extremity muscles MVICs and I analyzed datas as percentages of MVIC. But my group's amputation levels are different and their bodys weights' standard deviation is 12.5 kg. [also as you can imagine (because the MVIC is static) our results showed that higher percentages than their maximals which is expected like in the literature]. My advisor is thinking the body weight may be influencing the sEMG because they are carrying their BW with their upper extremities. Do you know any normalization methods to normalize emg signal with their body weights?

    Any contribution is very welcomed
    Thank you
