  • Options for buying a balance assessemnt/training systems

Our lab is in the process of purchasing a new balance assessment/training system.

We would use this force plate and software for conducting research and clinical services (balance assessment in older adults and concussion post-injury).

Some systems that we are considering are Biodex balance system SD, Biodex BioSway portable, and AMTI Accusway.

we would appreciate any feedback regarding peoples experience with these and or other systems.

Some questions that have come up:
    1) What is the quality of the Biodex force plate in the Balance SD system (sampling rate, sensitivity, etc.). Can the data be exported easily.
    2) Although designed for in lab use, can the Biodex Balance SD system be used as a portable system (only moving 2-3 times/year).
    3) What is the quality of the Biodex force plate in the BioSway portable system (sampling rate, sensitivity, etc.). Can the data be exported easily.

We would appreciate an information that would help us in this decision.

    Thank you .

    Hi Justus,

I quite like the Humac Balance Board - http://www.csmisolutions.com/sites/d...mestic_001.pdf
it is essentially a Wii balance board hard wired via usb so can be used with a laptop for portability or a desktop with a bigger screen in a lab or clinic. The Wii has been shown to be acceptable for a lot of clinical measures compared to force-plates (Clark et al 2010), can export data easily, and has a good variety of games for training and assessment purposes.
