  • Vicon Nexus 2.0

I an trying to get reviews on the the new Vicon Nexus 2.0.

How is it working for you?
    What do you like?
What do you not like so much?

What sort of bugs have been found?

    thank you for the information.

    Re: Vicon Nexus 2.0

My experience with Nexus 1.8.5 is that the system only exports the force platform data with the local coordinate. You need to manually convert the local coordinate to global if you want to synchronize your kinematic and kinetic data. Depending on how you set-up your force platforms, the x and y axes sometimes can be messed up by Nexus 1.8.5. During my last conversation with Vicon, I have been told that Nexus 2.0 provides you force platform data from both global and local coordinates. They also fixed the x and y axes bug in Nexus 2.0. But, I haven't had any experience with Nexus 2.0 yet.

      Re: Vicon Nexus 2.0

      Hi Justus

I'm the product manager at Vicon who is responsible for Nexus. I thought I'd mention to you that the Nexus 2 installer is set-up to automatically install a 30 day trial license. The license gives you full access to the entire application with all features available. We also designed the installer to create an isolated parallel install folder so that you don't need to removed Nexus 1.x to try this and Nexus 2 won't conflict or change any of your existing configuration files.

BioMch-L is an excellent place to gather opinions from others in the community who may have experience with the application already. I thought I'd mention the automatic trial license in case you decided you'd like to investigate further in a 'hands on' fashion. You can download the installer from the Vicon website. I'm also happy to field any direct questions you have.

There's a lot of new functionality in Nexus 2. I hope you like where we've taken the application.

        Re: Vicon Nexus 2.0

My favourite feature is the new gap-filling feature of being able to use 3 or more other trajectories as the source. There is also the possibility of communicating with Nexus in offline mode using the Nexus SDK using any capable language (which kind of replaces PECS, and with some creativity could be used in a similar way).

One thing I don't like is if you use BodyBuilder to do modelling and then use other software to read the C3D files, there are some changes in how it stores the modelled outputs, though this may be addressed in a future version.

I'm not sure I follow the concerns expressed about the ForcePlatform data. It is possible to export FP data in the global coord system (reactions) in Nexus 1.8.5 I think using the Export ASCII (Delimited) pipeline operation.

          Re: Vicon Nexus 2.0

Vicon Vero cameras are going offline on their own without our notice, hence we have to check repeatedly whether the cameras are live or not. Also in our workspace we don't have force plates; however when we are taking gait data and running Process Dynamic Plug in Gait Model pipeline, Vicon Nexus is giving the moments even without the ground reaction forces. How Vicon Nexus is doing the same, I have that question. Please reply if someone can help.
On researching a bit I found out that there are methods through which we can get kinetic data of human gait even without GRF data. I wonder if in our case Vicon Nexus is using that method or else it is taking some random GRF data.
