  • Creating Foot Template for F-Scan

    Hi

I am currently using the F-Scan by Tekscan to analyse foot loading patterns as part of a large scale research study. I want to create a template that divides the foot up into six sections: medial and lateral forefoot, midfoot and rearfoot. Currently, I can only apply a default 15 section foot template. Does anybody have experience of F-Scan and creating new plantar pressure template?

    Many Thanks

Re: Creating Foot Template for F-Scan

    Hi Craig,

I did something like this during my dissertation research but my application was a bit simpler. If I recall correctly I was only dividing the foot into forefoot, midfoot, and heel. I found the Tekscan software to be pretty rigid and not very accommodating for analysis that required any sort of customization. However, it has been over five years since I've worked with F-Scan so I don't know whether their software has changed (not much, if I know Tekscan).

For me, the best course of action was to export the data into .csv files and use Matlab to analyze the data from there. Matlab is well suited to manage this type of matrix data (2 dimensions for each foot and the 3rd dimension for frames, or time). If you think you want to go this direction, you're welcome to message me and I'll send you my code. At the very least, the code that imports the .csv file into a numerical matrix that can be manipulated in matlab will be useful to you. The rest of the code may need to be changed substantially based on your needs and on the decision criteria that create to divide the foot.
