  • How to Setup a Professional Research Lab Website?

    Hi all,

I would like to setup a research lab website for $500 or less that I can easily maintain once it is complete. It should be simple and look professional with all the basic lab information: lab introduction, project descriptions, publications, people, etc. Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Pete

If you are planning on building the web site yourself then I would suggest that you look at the WordPress content management system - there are a lot of web hosting sites that support this and include it in their hosting plans which makes it quite easy to get started.

I have used wordpress and google sites. Google sites is easier to use and easily compatible with other google stuff (e.g. calendar and drive), but wordpress has a more professional feel.

I'd agree with Ed that software designed to support blogging can be used very effectively to develop web-sites. I've got a blog (www.wwRichard.net) and a site for instructional materials (www.gaitcourses.com) which both use wordpress.com. The software is quite intuitive. That used for www.gaitcourses.com is entirely free apart form a few dollars to register the domain name) and I've paid a little more (about $50) to have a little freedom to customise the blog. Importantly it is free and easy to start so you can just sign up, have a go and see if you like it.
