  • Constant-resistance cycling trainer

Hello. I am new to the field and am working on a cycling/biomechanics study for subjects with CP. We are using a Tacx Flow trainer and I'm just now realizing that it's an ergo trainer, i.e. it electronically increases resistance as cycling speed increases. For our research purposes, this actually introduces an unnecessary level of complexity, as we're not terribly concerned about simulating the feel of road cycling. We'd rather be able to keep resistance constant with respect to speed.

Does anyone know of a particular trainer or type of trainer that allows for constant-resistance training?

    Thanks,
    -Jamie

    Hi Jamie,

    Try the lode bikes: http://www.lode.nl/en/product/corival/4/id_category/3

      Hi Jamie,

It will be hard to find a indoor "trainer" designed to fit all bike sizes and shapes that doesn't have a mechanism to increase resistance with an increase in speed. Do you need to have the flexibility to add different bikes? If not, I'd also go with the Lode bikes. They'll be more expensive that the trainer. If you wanted to look at other "trainers" kinetic and cycleOps are good and they have some magnetic flywheels that may allow you to control the resistance with respect to speed better than the fluid types.

      Hope this helps. Good luck,
      Kathy

The computrainer is another option as well.

          Hi James,

the Tacx Cosmos should do the job as well, but I can't find it anymore in the Tacx's website (http://www.tacx.com/).

          Hope it helps,
