  • Tendon excursion measument

    Dear Biomch-L Members,

I would like to measure the tendon excursion of FDL tendon (peak value or excursion-time history) during flexion and extension movements of the distal segments of the index finger from ultrasound video captures. Is that possible to measure the tendon excursion and if so, how?

I thank you very much for your responses in advance.

    Re: Tendon excursion measument

    Hi Derya,
The specifics of your experimental design will depend on what exactly your trying to get out (e.g. tendon strain, muscle strain/contraction, etc.), but I think the basics will involve tracking the muscle-tendon junction over the course of the motion. Here's a paper that I like that may help to get you started:

Lichtwark, G.A., and A. M. Wilson. "In vivo mechanical properties of the human Achilles tendon during one-legged hopping." Journal of Experimental Biology 208.24 (2005): 4715-4725.

    Good luck!
