  • NIR camera imaging

    Dear All,

Colleagues of mine have developed an application for tracking the human face using a camera in visible spectrum. We are now considering testing the application also in NIR spectrum. Besides of course asking directly some of the camera manufactures, what we have been doing already, I was wondering perhaps some of you have had some experience or know certain things about NIR imaging that could help out in terms of right equipment purchase.

    1. The idea is to consider the appropriate NIR camera solutions in two price ranges, approximately below 300euros and above 300euros. The camera should have USB interface and corresponding DirectShow filter drivers (UVC compliant), e.g. the camera is readily usable with applications such as Skype. Are aware of any such NIR cameras?

    2. Can you recommend also the appropriate lenses for NIR cameras? In relation to the previous question, it is perhaps necessary to attach some NIR filters directly on the lens or on the camera sensor?

    3. Do you recommend using additional source of NIR lights and which one? Is there any norm related to it in terms of health hazard, since the application is targeted for human face tracking (eyes)?

    Thank you. Tomislav Pribanic.
