  • Vicon Camera Malfunctions

    Hello,

We recently moved locations, and since the move 5 of our 12 vicon T20 cameras have become unoperational. Power gets to the camera, but the NIR strobe (red ring) never turns on.

I was wondering if anyone else has had any similar issues with their cameras. One thought is that we are near a train track and some cameras are mounted on the wall, so they experience some vibrations and that that may be the cause.

Please let me know if you have any experience with these issues and/or possible solutions.

    Thank you,
    Jennifer Perry

    Re: Vicon Camera Malfunctions

    Hey Jennifer,

I had a similar issue with a T-series camera last year. The problem ended up being a simple blown fuse. If you remove the cover of the camera the fuse is very easy to identify, all you need to do is use a continuity meter to check if you have an open circuit across the terminals where the fuse connects to see if it is blown or not.

What I would do first though, is call Vicon support and go through their troubleshooting process, they will basically just ask you to try different combinations of plugs/cables to the camera to see if that works (it likely won't) but then they will give you an RMA form to fill out to send in the strobe for replacement. I say to do this first, because if you are still covered under the service contract opening the camera up will most likely void that contract. This way Vicon has documentation saying that the camera was broken before you go messing with it. We weren't covered under warranty anymore and I think they wanted like $1300 for a new strobe. So I just figured we would give fixing it a shot before sending it in, and we were able to fix the issue with a $2 fuse.

Feel free to email me if you need help or have any other questions, I think that I even had to purchase that fuse in like a 20 pack, so I probably have some extras laying around - assuming I can find them.

      Thank you, Hunter.

That is extremely helpful to me! I will look into the fuse issue before we spend a lot sending them back to Vicon to fix.
