  • Looking for full-body kinematic data from running

We are a group of Sports Technology students from Aalborg University who are trying to collect kinematics data (.c3d) from many subjects running at different velocities and running styles. We need full-body kinematics.

We would appreciate feedback on possible data sources. Do you have data that you could make available, or could you point us to people or organizations who may have?

The aim of the study is to process the models through the AnyBody Modeling System to identify kinematics data such as joint angle time histories and to perform principal component analysis over the data sets to obtain a parametric running model with a minimum set of parameters.

The final aim is an application, which can help identify running style problems and corrections to improve efficiency and minimize injury risk. We will not publish any kind of raw data.

We are already familiar with the Motion Capture Library of Carnegie Mellon University and mocapdata.com.

In return for data you provide, we can offer AnyBody Modeling System models of your data or, in case you are not a user of this system, output that you may desire from the models.

Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi Rasmus,

Sam Hamner's running model/project might have the type of data you are looking for:

The purpose of this study was to determine how muscles contribute to propulsion (i.e., the fore-aft acceleration) and support (i.e., the vertical acceleration) of the body mass center during running.

      Hi Rasmus,

We are currently polishing the development of a running system.
We provide: 1. Ground contact time.
      2. Left to right symmetry.
      3. Pronation velocity.
      4. Foot strike location (forefoot / midsole / heel).
      5. Cadence.
      Let us know your feedback!
      Kind regards,

      Madeline
