Predatory journals have become a fact of life for academics who have any sort of Internet presence, especially if one has an LinkedIn profile, I think. My first instinct when I receive any sort of email from a journal with which I am unfamiliar, is to check via Google if it is on any predatory journal list. Offers of editorship from journals whose names do not ring a bell should be given the Groucho Marx treatment ("I don't want to belong to any club that would have me as a member!").
