how to place electrodes of surface EMG

Dear all,

I am a student and want to learn some basic knowledge of surface EMG. I want to ask if I can stick some tape on the electrodes to make the signal of EMG more stable. In addition, can I use one 8 channel preamplifier with one reference electrodes to detect the muscle activities of both legs or I should use two separately?

"can stick some tape on the electrodes to make the signal of EMG more stable" - Many laboratories secure EMG nodes with tape to ensure the unit is stuck against the skin.

I don't quite understand the second question, however, if you are collecting multiple muscles with multiple EMG nodes you should also use other grounds(what i interpret your reference electrodes to be). For instance with a noraxon wireless system each unit comes with its own box which acts a ground.
