Forensic gait analysis

There was a bizarre story on Blaze last week, claiming to have identified the pipe-bomber in the Jan 6 events by gait analysis. They didn't say what software was used, but claimed "94% accuracy". This week, the person they analyzed turned out to have an alibi and the FBI have now arrested someone else entirely. I wonder what people think of the idea of using gait analysis in this way? Seems to me that obtaining a valid result from grainy CCTV cameras would be next to impossible. There's surely so much noise, parallax etc. in a 2D video as to make it virtually useless? Or have there been developments that I am not aware of?
