    The Orthopaedic Bioengineering Research Laboratory (OBRL) under the
    Dept. of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University seeks to
    fill a part-time (25-35 hours/week) professional Coordinator position
    involving laboratory-based and project management responsibilities. The
    individual will work with researchers and students from the OBRL and the
    Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH) at CSU.

    Background: The OBRL is an interdisciplinary research group consisting
    of faculty from the College of Engineering who collaborate with faculty
    from the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

    Coordinator Responsibilities Include:
    (1) Fast and efficient orthopaedic tissue histological (decalcified
    and undecalcified slides) digital image capture.
    (2) Planar image reconstruction and composite compiling for
    histomorphometric analysis.
    (3) Supervise and track the daily performance of undergraduate students.
    (4) Prepare and submit biomechanical and histological research
    protocols and budgets.
    (5) Track laboratory budget and related financials.
    (6) Schedule laboratory equipment usage and generate related billing
    documents.
    (7) Maintain and update laboratory protocols, standard operating
    procedure manuals, and quality control/assurance measures.
    (8) Maintain project and sponsor database for accurate,
    comprehensive, and organized records.
    (9) Establish and maintain budget allocations of research grants and
    contracts.
    (10) Daily laboratory management which includes; maintaining
    equipment servicing contracts, ordering supplies, and keeping accurate,
    comprehensive, and organized records.
    (11) Maintain working relationships with CSU Veterinary Teaching
    Hospital, Radiological Services, and Environmental Health Services
    including biosafety and hazardous waste.
    (12) Classify and keep comprehensive inventory of cadaveric and
    animal specimens, bio-hazardous materials, chemicals, hazardous wastes,
    Material Safety Data Sheets, etc.
    (13) Ensure proper management and disposal of all hazardous wastes
    generated at the OBRL and keep the OBRL in compliance with biosafety
    regulations.
    (14) Ensure proper radiation safety, documentation and training for
    use of radioisotopes and radiation producing machines in the OBRL.
    (15) Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications:
    (1) Bachelor’s degree required. Science disciplines preferred.
    (2) Proficient in use of IBM PC computers running Microsoft Windows
    Suite including PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
    (3) Demonstrated experience in financial accounting equal to or
    greater than $500k/year.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    (1) Demonstrated experience with Adobe Photoshop OR Photoshop
    Elements software.
    (2) Protocol and budget experience.
    (3) Demonstrated experience in laboratory or office management
    duties such as inventory, ordering, filing, billing and related record
    keeping.
    (4) Technical writing experience.
    (5) Experience in laboratory or office equipment training,
    maintenance, and calibration/preventative service contract preparation.


    Other Desired Experience:
    (1) Demonstrated proficiency in histological slide capture.
    (2) Demonstrated experience with Image Pro imaging software and with
    SPOT Advanced digital software
    (3) Hazardous waste handling and disposal training.
    (4) Demonstrated experience working with a microscope in an academic
    or professional work environment.
    (5) Previous experience handling biological tissue(s) and reagents.
    (6) Knowledge of use of the online biomedical library, including
    experience in conducting computer literature searches and locating
    citations in books and periodicals.

    General Comments:
    This position, under the direction of the Laboratory Director and the
    Assistant Laboratory Director, requires interactions with investigators,
    undergraduate and graduate students and other research staff and
    personnel; therefore the incumbent must have good interpersonal and
    communications skills and be able to work well with a varied group of
    investigators. It is essential that the incumbent be capable of working
    independently, which is, executing tasks according to written and verbal
    instructions with minimal immediate or direct supervision. The
    incumbent must be self-motivated, meticulous, able to follow written and
    oral instructions precisely, able to “multi-task”, exhibit extraordinary
    organizational skills and work in harmony with others. This position
    requires sitting at a workstation in a stationary position up to 8 hrs.

    Full-Time Annual Salary: Starts at $30,000 – $35,000/year plus benefits
    depending on experience.
