Tenure track, 12-month Faculty Position focused on Acute Care/Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapy Department at the University of Michigan-Flint has expanded and is seeking applications for a tenure track, 12-month faculty position. This faculty position primarily assist with the Professional (entry-level) Doctor of Physical Therapy Program (DPT) acute care, metabolic/integument and cardiopulmonary physical therapy course sequence.
Rank is commensurate with experience and academic credentials.
Qualifications for this faculty positions include:
• Currently licensed physical therapist and eligible for licensure in the State of Michigan,
• Clinical experience in physical therapy,
• Teaching experience, clinical or academic, and
• Willingness to collaborate with students, working professionals and colleagues.
• Willing to pursue an academic doctorate (PhD, EdD, DSc or ABD).
The University of Michigan-Flint (UM-Flint) is one of four campuses in Michigan listed as a “best value†in the Princeton Review. UM-Flint enrolls approximately 8,000 students with 1,000 graduate students. The campus sits on a beautiful 75 acre riverfront campus situated in downtown Flint, Genesee County, Michigan. The Physical Therapy Department is located in the William S. White building which opened in 2004. The White building pictured above is equipped with state-of-the-art instructional technology and research laboratories.
The Physical Therapy Department
• Is one of three departments (Nursing and Health Sciences and Administration) within the
School of Health Professions and Studies.
• Has a DPT curriculum based on Evidence-Based Practice and the Guide to Physical Therapist Practice.
• Has a deep seated history of faculty governance with a commitment to excellence in teaching,
learning, scholarship and service to the profession
o Department operates on a collegial model,
o Numerous presentations and publications by faculty, and
o Over 130 clinical education affiliations within a 350 mile
radius of the program with strong support from the Flint
community.
• Is a dynamic environment
o Transitional DPT program implemented in January of 2009,
o Clinical concentrations/certificate programs with optional
residencies in five areas of specialization in orthopedics,
neurology, geriatrics, pediatrics, and cardiopulmonary physical
therapy, and
o The Urban Health and Wellness Center (UHWC) PT Clinic has
opportunities to expand clinical practice and clinical research
including APTA Connect software to track PT patient outcomes
for research purposes.
• Has a long history of professional engagement at the state, national, and international level with numerous faculty and student presentations at state, regional, national and international meetings, and
• Has had three Catherine Worthingham Fellows of the American Physical Therapy Association on faculty.
Many of the UM-Flint Physical Therapy Department faculty will be available to meet at CSM 2010 in San Diego, CA. Applications will be accepted until all positions are filled, however, review of applications will begin when received.
