Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Joint Biomechanics and Cartilage Mechanobiology

The Department of Biomechanics and the Laboratories for Functional Tissue Engineering and Soft Tissue Research at Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York City are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to study joint contact mechanics and soft tissue mechanobiology of normal, injured and diseased joints. Research projects require the preparation and in vitro testing of full-knee joint specimens and cartilage, programming of joint simulators and bioreactors, processing and mapping data generated from joint contact sensors and motion analysis systems, and use of a variety of quantitative analysis techniques (e.g., biochemical, molecular, and mechanical). Interested candidates should have recently obtained a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering or a closely-related engineering field.

Hospital for Special Surgery is a world-leading orthopedic and rheumatology hospital and offers a vibrant research atmosphere with extensive collaborations. Applicants will have an opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary research team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians. In addition, further opportunities for scientific interaction exist through affiliations with the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University and other universities and hospitals in the New York City area.

The post-doctoral position is funded through the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award and is available for one year with an additional second year possible based on performance. Candidates MUST be US citizens or permanent residents, and have strong written and verbal communication skills. Individuals from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply. Candidates will be interviewed in mid- to late- December.

Curriculum vitae and the names, telephone numbers and email addresses of three references should be emailed to:
