Post-Doctoral Fellow, Bone Biomechanics
Bone Imaging Laboratory
University of Calgary, Canada
Starting date: April 2011 (flexible)
Applications are invited to fill two positions for post-doctoral fellow positions in the area of bone biomechanics at the Bone Imaging Laboratory (http://bonelab.ucalgary.ca). The successful candidates will work on projects related to bone quality assessment using micro-computed tomography.
One position will focus on a project studying bone quality across the lifespan using HR-pQCT and will require previous experience with population-based studies. The second position will focus on development of approaches for non-invasive assessment of bone strength using micro-computed tomography and the finite element method. This work will be performed under the supervision of Dr. Steven Boyd.
Candidates with a PhD degree (or equivalent) are invited to submit their application including a brief introductory letter detailing training experiences, and a CV by e-mail (skboyd@ucalgary.ca) with the subject heading "PDF Application to the Bone Imaging Laboratory" as soon as possible.

Graduate Studentship, Biomedical Engineering
Bone Imaging Laboratory
University of Calgary, Canada
Starting date: September, 2011 or earlier (flexible)
Applications are invited for a Biomedical Engineering Graduate Studentship at the Bone Imaging Laboratory (http://bonelab.ucalgary.ca). The successful candidate will work on projects related to bone quality assessment using micro-computed tomography.
The projects range from population-based studies of bone health using high resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) to development and application of the finite element method for non-invasive assessment of bone strength. Research projects typically include theoretical and experimental components, and examples of current projects can be found here: http://bonelab.ucalgary.ca/pages/currentProjects.html.
The student will be registered in the Biomedical Engineering Graduate Program (http://schulich.ucalgary.ca/biomedical/Programs/Graduate) under the supervision of Dr. Steven Boyd. A background in engineering (or equivalent) is preferred, but not required. Candidates are invited to submit their application including a brief introductory letter detailing training experiences, transcripts (can be an unofficial version at this stage), and a CV by e-mail (skboyd@ucalgary.ca) with the subject heading “Graduate studentship application to the Bone Imaging Laboratory” as soon as possible.
