ASPIRE Academy for Sports Excellence is seeking for Head of Biomechanics to lead and manage the operations of the Biomechanics Unit within Sport Science Department (for details see the job description below). ASPIRE is Qatar's visionary Sports Academy, which launched its academic curriculum in September 2004. The Academy will discover the best young sporting talents from the region and around the world, and make them world class. Aspire Dome, the largest indoor sports facility in the world boasts an instrumented athletics track, full-size football pitch, various multi-purpose halls as well as state-of-the-art sport science facilities including laboratory areas for motion analysis, anthropometry, altitude training and physiological / biochemical assessments.

Job description
The Head of Biomechanics is accountable for the professional leadership of the operations of ASPIRE's sport biomechanics and performance analysis services including establishing strategic directions, providing expert consultancy advice and the provision of specialized applied sport biomechanics services to ASPIRE coaches, athletes and related Sport Science and Medicine professionals resulting in an improved biomechanical preparation for sporting excellence, in accordance with the aims and objectives of ASPIRE. The incumbent will also foster strategic alliances/partnerships and manage applied scientific projects. Central to this position is the need to import and implement new concepts and technology in order to develop cutting edge programs in sport biomechanics and performance analysis.
Main responsibilities
* Leads and manages the operations of the Sport Biomechanics Unit and develops a strategic framework for its direction and coordination to ensure the effective delivery of services to Aspire sports, and other national sport programs under service agreements or as requested by the Director of Sports Science
* Leads and manages the design, implementation and interpretation of quality assured field and laboratory sport biomechanics and performance analysis test protocols in consultation with other sport scientists and coaches, as well as co-ordinates the management and maintenance of a database of biomechanical test results from the field and laboratory.
* Conducts, commissions or collaborates on applied research projects which contribute to improving the effectiveness of the coach and athlete in the field of sports biomechanics/performance analysis as well as representing the Unit in strategic planning in this area.
* Participate in, and contribute to, national and international forums and bodies which contribute to the outcomes of ASPIRE and enhances its standing as an 'Academy of Sports Excellence' in the fields of biomechanics and performance analysis.
Qualifications and experience
* PhD or equivalent in Biomechanics or related field is preferred
* Experience working in the field of applied Sport Biomechanics / Science
* Experience in providing biomechanics based scientific support to high-performance coaches and athletes
* Demonstrated ability to apply high performance techniques and skills in a sub elite, developmental environment
* Demonstrated experience in working in a multi discipline service team to support coaches and athletes
* Demonstrated ability to lead a successful multi-disciplinary program
* Publications in the applied sports science/ medicine literature and in contemporary sport-specific journals
Essential Knowledge and Skills
* Strong managerial, organizational and strategic planning ability
* High level interpersonal skills to effectively develop and maintain partnerships, networks and client relationships
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Excellent overall understanding of the technologies used in Sport Biomechanics / Performance Analysis
* Fluent in English (oral and written)
Personal Attributes
* Self motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team(s)
* Ability to establish strong working relationships with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
* Creative, enthusiastic and reliable
* High achievement orientation and ability to commit to team goals
* Genuine passion for sport
