The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Hartford is
seeking candidates for a 10 month, Extended Term Contract position
Assistant Professor position to serve in our new Master of Science in
Prosthetics and Orthotics (MSPO) program (http://new.hartford.edu/enhp/academics/physical/hsmpo.aspx
).
Preferred candidates will possess academic teaching experience, offer
a suitable area of research/scholarly pursuit, and will be able to
demonstrate significant experience working with prosthetics and
orthotics clinical populations. The successful candidate will provide
primary teaching expertise within one or more content areas: anatomy,
kinesiology, biomechanics, neuroscience, scientific inquiry, clinical
foundations, health-care management, and/or a clinical area of
specialty – prosthetics and/or orthotics specialists must be ABC-
certified. Potential applicants must possess a minimum of a Master’s
degree to be considered. Licensed health-care professionals who hold a
clinical terminal degree, and/or doctorally prepared (ABD considered)
individuals are encouraged to apply.

The National Commission on Orthotics and Prosthetics Education (NCOPE)
mandates that as of 2012 all degree-based training must be conducted
at the Master’s level. Building upon the tradition of excellence of
the long-standing Newington Certificate Program (NCP), the University
of Hartford is now instituting a new dual-degree BS/MSPO program that
will provide both freshman and post baccalaureate entry into the
curriculum. Housed within the existing Physical Therapy department, co-
teaching and collaborative research are common expectations for
members of our faculty. Available for use are three well-equipped
clinical teaching laboratories, and three research laboratories
containing real-time 3D data acquisition and analysis, 8 channels of
EMG, and force platforms, simultaneous control of external signaling
(e.g. sound, light) to permit feedback experimentation on human
posture, balance, gait and other activities, an un-weighting treadmill
gait system, a pressure mapping system, and other technologies.
Clinical skills and manufacturing training are to be primarily
delivered at the NCP site located just 20 minutes from campus. For
student experiential training numerous connections are already made
with clinical sites and hospitals throughout New England, and indeed
the country.
