Research Assistant / Lab Manager
A research assistant / lab manager is required at the Constance Lethbridge Rehabilitation Centre (CLRC) in Montreal, Québec, Canada to support research focused primarily on the biomechanical, neuromuscular and clinical aspects of low back pain, under the direction of Dr. Richard Preuss. A successful applicant will support all technical aspects of lab activities, including equipment set-up, data acquisition and analysis. Additional duties may include assisting in the preparation of grant applications and journal papers, assisting clinicians with the design of clinical research projects, assisting graduate students with data acquisition and experimental design, managing day-to-day operations of the laboratory, etc.
Operations at the CLRC are conducted in both English and French, and a working knowledge of both languages is desirable.
Applicants should hold a bachelor's degree or higher in kinesiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, biomedical engineering or other related discipline, and be legally entitled to work in Canada. In addition, applicants must have experience in the following areas:
Kinematic motion analysis and modeling
Kinetic/force plate data acquisition
Surface electromyography
Research methodology
Matlab programming (or similar programming experience)
Statistical analysis (e.g. SPSS)
Experience in the following areas is also desirable:
Ultrasound imaging
Virtual reality research
Clinical gait analysis
The successful applicant will support research in two laboratories at the CLRC.
The main laboratory space is equipped with:
16-sensor TrakStar electromagnetic motion capture system
32-channel Delsys Trigno wireless surface EMG system with integrated tri-axial accelerometers
3 AMTI force plates (2 BP400600 NC, and 1 AccuSway portable)
GAITRite pressure mat system
Sensics piSight Head Mounted Display
Blood pressure, heart rate and metabolic activity monitors
The virtual reality room is equipped with a Motek V-Gait system, consisting of:
Dual-belt, self-paced treadmill with integrated force plates mounted on a 2DoF motion surface
12 camera OptiTrack optical motion capture system
3-screen real-time virtual-reality projection system
The position is for a 1 year contract beginning in January, 2011, and is potentially renewable. The salary starts at $41,000 (based on a 35hr work week), but may be increased based on the experience and qualifications of the applicant.
