    Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Mechanobiology

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Computational Mechanobiology at the
National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science (NCBES) at the National University of
Ireland Galway. This position is funded by the European Research Council.

We seek a highly motivated post-doctoral fellow to work on a project to predict the
mechanical stimuli that different bone cells experience under in vivo loading. This position
would be particularly suitable to a researcher that has a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and
has significant postdoctoral research experience in one or more of the following areas: finite
element analysis, fluid structure interaction, multiscale modelling and homogenization
theory. The researcher will work closely with other members of a multidisciplinary project
team including PIs, clinicians, postdoctoral and postgraduate researchers in the
Biomechanics Research Cluster and the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering
Sciences (NCBES). Excellent communication and organizational skills, attention to detail,
independent initiative and ability to work in a collaborative environment are required. A
strong publication record is essential and the candidate must be able to contribute to the
overall success of the lab. This position is available for four years, and a minimum two year
commitment to the position is required.

    Research Environment:
The research will be carried out at the National Centre for Biomedical Engineering Science
(NCBES) at NUI Galway. The University is highly committed to research and Biomedical
Science and Engineering is one of the key research priorities. The NCBES is a hub for
biomedical research, representing all of NUI Galway's Biomedical Science and Engineering
research programmes, which transcend school and college boundaries, involving academic
researchers from Science, Engineering and Informatics, Medicine, Nursing, and Health
Sciences Colleges and associated research institutes.
Interested candidates should send a cover letter, which highlights the candidate’s interest in
the field and reasons for pursuing this Postdoctoral Fellowship, and a CV by email to Dr.
Laoise McNamara at Laoise.McNamara@nuigalway.ie by January 10th 2011. Informal
enquiries are welcome at the same e-mail address. The expected start date for this position is
    February 1st 2011.
